What is mediation about?

Unprocessed conflicts (especially in companies, at work, between business partners, … ) tie up resources. They cost a lot of energy, nerves and ultimately a lot of money. Disputes in court are also expensive and rarely bring the desired success. Therefore, an alternative is becoming increasingly important: Mediation Mediation (Latin for mediation) is a non-public process of constructive decision-making and conflict resolution. Online mediation in particular expands the possibilities again because the conflicting parties can meet online.

THE ARGUMENT ABOUT THE LEMON

A father watches two siblings fight over a lemon. At first he watches, but as it gets louder he goes over and divides them fairly in half. Both children start crying. Dismayed, he asks why they are not satisfied with the fair division. Sobbing, his daughter tells him that she wanted to peel off the shell in one piece for a craft. She couldn’t do anything with half the bowl. Her brother then growls that he wanted to squeeze the fruit so that he could prepare a glass of hot lemon. So both realize that they could have had it all and been content if the just father had not hastily intervened, but had helped them to exchange their wishes, needs and interests.
